Design Engineer – Electrical Distribution (up to 11kV)
Location: Wiltshire
Type: Permanent | Full-time

We are supporting a specialist power engineering contractor that delivers turnkey solutions across private networks, DNO/IDNO connections, and utility-scale infrastructure. As their project pipeline grows, they are looking for a skilled Design Engineer to take a lead role in producing safe, compliant, and efficient electrical network designs – primarily at LV and 11kV, with exposure up to 33kV.

This role will suit a detail-driven engineer with a strong technical foundation and a collaborative mindset, keen to deliver innovative and compliant solutions across the UK.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and plan electricity distribution networks (LV to 11kV; up to 33kV exposure)

  • Perform feasibility studies and assess system design options

  • Create schematic diagrams, HV routing layouts, wiring diagrams, metering/protection SLDs

  • Produce earthing studies and associated drawings

  • Maintain design accuracy including cable entry points and site measurements

  • Manage design changes in coordination with clients, IDNOs, and civils teams

  • Provide technical specs for turnkey contracts, protection equipment, and auxiliary systems

  • Support tendering process and conduct technical reviews

  • Complete technical reports for capital approval processes


Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of power distribution design up to 11kV (33kV–132kV exposure is a plus)

  • Experience with DNO/IDNO design standards, especially G81 or BS7671

  • Knowledge of CDM requirements and pre-construction risk assessments

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (City & Guilds accepted)

  • Proficient in MS Office, Teams, SharePoint, and collaboration tools

  • Familiar with industry design tools (Amtec, Windebut, etc.)

  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage technical stakeholders

  • Previous experience working with or for a DNO/IDNO

  • Desire to progress towards professional registration (IEng, EngTech, or IET)
