Traveling MEP Superintendent – Data Center Construction
Position Summary
The Traveling MEP Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP), and Fire Protection activities on mission-critical data center construction projects nationwide. Working closely with the Project Superintendent, Project Manager, trade partners, engineers, and commissioning teams, this role ensures all MEP systems are installed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract documents, project schedules, and quality standards.
This position requires extensive travel and temporary assignment to project sites throughout the United States.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead all field operations related to Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems.
- Coordinate daily activities of MEP subcontractors to maintain production, quality, and schedule objectives.
- Develop and execute short- and long-term installation plans in collaboration with project leadership.
- Monitor installation progress and proactively resolve conflicts between trades.
- Conduct regular site walks to verify workmanship, code compliance, and adherence to project specifications.
- Review construction documents, shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals for constructability and field coordination.
- Manage inspections, testing, startup, and commissioning activities for all building systems.
- Coordinate turnover packages, punch lists, and owner acceptance milestones.
- Support integrated systems testing and final commissioning for mission-critical facilities.
- Maintain detailed field documentation including daily reports, manpower tracking, quality inspections, and schedule updates.
- Identify and mitigate project risks while maintaining productivity and budget objectives.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Foster strong working relationships with owners, design consultants, vendors, inspectors, and subcontractors.
Qualifications
- Minimum 8–10 years of commercial construction experience with increasing responsibility in MEP field supervision.
- Significant experience on mission-critical or hyperscale data center projects preferred.
- Strong understanding of:
- HVAC systems
- Electrical distribution
- Plumbing systems
- Fire protection systems
- Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- Generator and UPS infrastructure
- Medium- and low-voltage electrical systems
- Experience coordinating startup, commissioning, and integrated systems testing.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and BIM coordination models.
- Strong scheduling and planning skills with experience using CPM schedules.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and conflict resolution abilities.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Ability to travel full-time and relocate temporarily to active project sites.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with hyperscale clients such as Microsoft, Meta, Google, Amazon Web Services, or other mission-critical facilities.
- Knowledge of commissioning processes, TAB (Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing), and QA/QC procedures.
- Familiarity with BIM coordination and clash detection.
- Experience working in fast-track design-build environments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk active construction sites for extended periods.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and access elevated work areas.
- Lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and indoor environments under construction.
Travel Requirements
- This is a full-time traveling position requiring assignment to project locations throughout the United States.
- Extended travel and temporary relocation for project durations is required.
- Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or night shifts as project schedules demand.
