BIM Manager (Contract) – Hyperscale Data Center Projects
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced BIM Manager to support the delivery of a Hyperscaler's global Data Center portfolio. This contract role will lead Building Information Modeling (BIM) strategy, implementation, and coordination across complex hyperscale data center projects from design through construction and commissioning.
The BIM Manager will serve as the central point of contact for digital project delivery, ensuring compliance with the client's BIM standards, information management requirements, and digital construction objectives. The successful candidate will collaborate with design consultants, general contractors, trade partners, and internal project teams to drive model quality, coordination efficiency, and data integrity throughout the project lifecycle.
This role requires a strong understanding of mission-critical facilities, advanced BIM execution planning, multidisciplinary model coordination, and large-scale construction delivery.
Key Responsibilities
BIM Leadership & Strategy:
- Develop, implement, and manage BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) aligned with Google standards and project requirements.
- Establish project-specific BIM workflows, modeling standards, coordination procedures, and data exchange protocols.
- Serve as the primary BIM subject matter expert for project stakeholders.
- Promote best practices in digital design, construction technology, and information management.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to BIM, Digital Twin, and digital delivery processes.
Model Management & Coordination:
- Oversee federated model development across architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and specialty systems disciplines.
- Manage model integration and coordination activities throughout design and construction phases.
- Facilitate clash detection reviews and coordinate issue resolution among project teams.
- Ensure model quality, accuracy, and compliance with established BIM standards.
- Monitor model progression against project milestones and deliverable requirements.
- Coordinate model handoffs between design, construction, commissioning, and facilities management teams.
Data Center Design Coordination:
- Support multidisciplinary coordination of mission-critical infrastructure including:
- Electrical distribution systems
- Medium and low-voltage systems
- UPS and battery systems
- Generator systems
- Mechanical cooling infrastructure
- Chilled water systems
- Fire protection systems
- Telecommunications and low-voltage systems
- Building automation systems
- Facilitate coordination of highly complex MEP systems within constrained data center environments.
- Assist teams in resolving constructability, sequencing, and installation challenges through BIM-enabled workflows.
Digital Construction & VDC Management:
- Lead Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) initiatives throughout project execution.
- Support 4D scheduling integration and construction sequencing simulations.
- Coordinate model-based quantity takeoffs and construction planning efforts.
- Develop visualizations and construction logistics models as required.
- Support field BIM implementation and model utilization during construction activities.
- Drive adoption of digital construction technologies and workflows.
Quality Assurance & Governance:
- Establish and enforce BIM quality control procedures.
- Perform regular model audits and compliance reviews.
- Verify adherence to project BIM standards, naming conventions, file structures, and metadata requirements.
- Monitor data quality and information completeness across project deliverables.
- Support project teams in maintaining model integrity and version control.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Facilitate BIM coordination meetings with consultants, contractors, and trade partners.
- Present BIM progress, coordination metrics, and issue tracking reports to project leadership.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams regarding BIM-related challenges.
- Collaborate closely with design managers, construction managers, and commissioning teams.
- Interface with client project stakeholders to ensure compliance with project objectives and digital delivery requirements.
Asset Information & Handover:
- Support development and validation of asset information models.
- Ensure project deliverables meet operational and facilities management requirements.
- Coordinate digital turnover packages and as-built model delivery.
- Assist with integration of BIM data into operational systems and digital asset management platforms.
- Verify model readiness for commissioning and facilities operations.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- Minimum 8–10 years of BIM/VDC experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Proven experience delivering large-scale mission-critical, data center, industrial, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, or advanced technology projects.
- Strong understanding of BIM standards, workflows, and project delivery methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary BIM coordination efforts.
- Extensive experience working in complex MEP environments.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders across large project teams.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting hyperscale data center programs.
- Previous experience working with Google, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or other major technology clients.
- Familiarity with Digital Twin and smart building initiatives.
- Experience with Design-Build, EPC, and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) environments.
- Knowledge of ISO 19650 information management standards.
- Experience supporting commissioning and operational handover processes.
- Understanding of construction sequencing, logistics planning, and field operations.
